Insemination (IUI) with own or donor sperm

Insemination – also known as intrauterine insemination (IUI) – is primarily used when the man's sperm quality is normal or only slightly impaired and the woman's fallopian tubes are patent. IUI (with donor sperm) is also a treatment option for lesbian couples.

IUI can also be helpful if sexual intercourse is not possible, for example in cases of vaginismus or erectile dysfunction.

Homologous insemination (with the partner's sperm)

For homologous insemination, the partner's sperm is specially prepared in our laboratory. It is then inserted directly into the uterine cavity using a very thin catheter.

Please note: Sperm obtained from TESE (surgical testicular biopsy) is not suitable for IUI.

Heterologous/donor insemination (with donor sperm)

If the man has no sperm or if the couple is a female same-sex couple, donor sperm can be used for fertilization.

To ensure the widest possible selection of donors, we work closely with leading Danish sperm banks:

Important: According to current Austrian law, single women are not allowed to be treated with donor sperm.
