Alcohol
Alcohol is one of the factors that can significantly impair fertility in both women and men. Although occasional drinking is often downplayed, studies show that even small amounts can affect reproductive ability.
In women, alcohol directly affects hormone balance and can disrupt the menstrual cycle. In addition, egg maturation is impaired and the uterine lining may not develop optimally. This reduces the likelihood of a fertilized egg successfully implanting itself. Alcohol is particularly problematic in early pregnancy, when many women do not yet know they are pregnant – even small amounts can affect the development of the embryo.
There are also negative effects in men: alcohol can reduce testosterone production, decrease sperm motility and count, and impair the quality of genetic material. As a result, not only are the chances of fertilization reduced, but the risk of miscarriage may also increase.
The best recommendation for couples who want to have children is therefore to consistently avoid alcohol or at least reduce their consumption significantly. An alcohol-free lifestyle not only improves the chances of pregnancy, but also supports the long-term health of both partners.
