HOW DOES PAYMENT WITH THE IVF FUND WORK?
The Dr. Loimer Fertility Clinic has an agreement with the Austrian IVF Fund. This means we can offer eligible couples IVF treatment at the fund's discounted rates.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR ADDITIONAL PAYMENT FROM THE IVF FUND?
- Austrian citizens
- Citizens of an EEA member state
- Citizens of the Swiss Confederation
- Persons who, as relatives of nationals of an EEA member state or the Swiss Confederation who are entitled to freedom of movement, have a right of residence under EU law in accordance with Sections 54 or 54a of the Settlement and Residence Act (NAG), Federal Law Gazette I No. 100/2005
- Persons who have a residence permit in accordance with Section 8 (1) (1), (2), (3), (7) or (8) of the Settlement and Residence Act (NAG)

- The couple wishing to have children must be married, in a registered partnership, or in a marriage-like relationship.
- Same-sex couples are also eligible
- Treatments with donated egg or sperm cells can also be billed through the IVF Fund
- The additional costs for donated egg or sperm cells are not co-financed by the IVF Fund.
- Tip: You may be able to deduct the costs of your IVF treatment from your taxes (“extraordinary medical expenses”)!
MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Female infertility diagnosed by a specialist caused by endometriosis, blocked or impaired fallopian tubes, or PCOS
- and/or medically diagnosed male infertility
- all other attempts to achieve pregnancy have been unsuccessful to date
- neither partner has undergone a deliberate sterilization procedure
- however, following sterilization for medical reasons (e.g., sacral salpinges), there is entitlement to a fund co-payment
AGE LIMITS
At the start of fertility treatment, the woman must not have reached her 40th birthday and her partner must not have reached his 50th birthday. If the age limit is exceeded during treatment, the IVF fund will cover the costs of the current treatment. However, further treatment will no longer be eligible for support from the IVF fund.
HEALTH INSURANCE
Proof of eligibility for benefits must be provided for both partners. This can be issued by the statutory health insurance, a health care institution, or a private Austrian or foreign health insurance company.
WHAT TREATMENTS ARE FINANCED?
The IVF Fund covers 70 percent of the costs for IVF, ICSI, and cryo-embryo transfers (if more embryos are fertilized and cryopreserved for a later attempt) as well as MESA and TESE. The costs for the provision of donor sperm or donated eggs are not co-financed by the IVF Fund. Homologous and heterologous inseminations are also not financially supported. The Kinderwunsch Institut, which has contracts with the IVF Fund, handles the processing with the Austrian IVF Fund. The couple seeking to have children is only charged the 30 percent deductible. Ultrasound examinations and medical consultations before, between, and after fund cycles are billed as private services.
HOW MANY ATTEMPTS ARE SUPPORTED BY THE FUND?
The IVF Fund provides additional funding for four attempts per couple. An attempt is defined as a complete treatment cycle from the time the treatment actually begins at the IVF center until proof of pregnancy or non-pregnancy is provided. A treatment cycle that is discontinued due to lack of success is considered an attempt. However, if an attempt must be discontinued for medical reasons after egg retrieval and the cryopreserved embryos obtained are used in the subsequent treatment cycle, this counts as only one attempt. Otherwise, each treatment cycle in which cryopreserved embryos stored from a previous completed attempt are used is considered a separate attempt. Coverage of the costs for more than four attempts at artificial insemination requires that at least one pregnancy has been successfully achieved using IVF methods. If one of the four attempts is successful and a pregnancy is achieved, the full entitlement to coverage of the costs for a further four attempts is reinstated from this attempt onwards. The fund rates are graded according to the age of the patient. For example, the rates are slightly higher for women aged 35 and over, as statistically speaking, these women require more stimulation medication. You will receive a detailed cost estimate during your initial consultation and treatment planning at the Dr. Loimer Fertility Institute. Find out about subsidies for your artificial insemination.
