The inside of the uterus is usually smooth and lined with the endometrium. Uterine malformations, inflammation, mucosal growths (polyps) or larger muscle nodes (fibroids) can impair the implantation of the embryo. These findings can be identified and surgically removed as part of a hysteroscopy – a short outpatient procedure in hospital.
Women who have had several failed attempts at IVF are particularly recommended to have a hysteroscopy with us in Linz. A Spanish study has shown that in the cycle after a hysteroscopy, the rate of spontaneous pregnancies increased significantly.
