BLEEDING DURING EARLY PREGNANCY

First the good news: bleeding occurs in a third of early pregnancies and is usually harmless.

During the early stages of pregnancy, mild bleeding can occur when the fertilised egg tries to embed itself into the uterus. As the placenta adheres to the wall of the uterus, this is also sometimes accompanied by light bleeding. Since the time of this often coincides with that of the missing menstrual period, this bleeding can lead to confusion and uncertainty in women. The reason is often too low progesterone level.

In order to protect the pregnancy as well as possible, our fertility patients always take progesterone vaginally or as an injection. In the first trimester of pregnancy, light bleeding is usually nothing unusual. In any case, the decisive factor is whether it is accompanied by pain. Pain can be an indication of an ectopic pregnancy or an impending miscarriage.
