COFFEE DURING PREGNANCY

Many fertility patients and pregnant women miss their daily cup or two of coffee, but they don’t have to go without. If you want to be careful, there is nothing wrong with this dose.

The findings of studies regarding coffee consumption during pregnancy don’t agree, but when you summarise the results, the following conclusions can be made:

  • The effect of coffee appears to be dose-dependent
  • The limit values above which a negative effect occurs are found between 300 and 500mg daily
  • The effect of coffee is possibly caused by chronically elevated estrogen levels
  • Endometriosis as a reason for infertility can be aggravated by caffeine
  • Tea also contains caffeine, but in significantly lower amounts
