HORMONAL DISORDERS IN MEN

The male testicles are responsible for the production of hormones and sperm. In the hormone analysis, an elevated male FSH value can indicate testicular damage, but this does not rule out the possibility of natural pregnancy.

For men of reproductive age, the suppression of pituitary hormones through the consumption of anabolic steroids should not be underestimated. They can lead to an inhibition of sperm production and a decrease in testicular volume. Recovery of sperm production can take up to six months or more. In addition to infertility, loss of libido and erectile dysfunction can also be observed while taking anabolic steroids.

Some medications can cause erectile dysfunction and problems with ejaculation; they can also have a negative effect on sperm production and function of the epididymis. Especially in the context of ongoing fertility treatment, the patient should only take medication in consultation with their doctor at the Kinderwunsch Institut Dr Loimer.
