DETERMINATION OF INFECTIONS BEFOR TREATMENT

The procedures involved in assisted reproductive medicine harbour the potential for risk of infection. Therefore, according to Section 4 of the Tissue Collection Facility Ordinance (§4 der Gewebeentnahmeeinrichtungsverordnung), the following parameters must be determined for every couple, and for every living donor before starting treatment:

  • HIV/AIDS: HIV antibodies
  • Hepatitis B: Anti HBc and HBsA – in the case of chronic infection, the unprotected partner is vaccinated
  • Hepatitis C: Anti-HCV Ab
  • Syphilis: TPHA
  • Chlamydia: PCR from urine
  • Rubella: if the patient is not protected, vaccination is recommended
  • Vaginal bacterial smear
  • Bacterial examination of the semen
  • Potentially:
  • ZIKA virus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UpghFUsCks (available in German)
  • Varicella (chickenpox)

For logistical reasons, treatment of patients infected with hepatitis C and HIV at the Kinderwunsch Institut Dr Loimer is not possible. In this case, please contact Dr Loimer for a recommendation of an appropriate facility.
